The A310 was presented in 1971 at the Geneva motor show as a replacement for the A110. Compared to the latter, however, the A310 also wanted to be a reference to the GT4, a 2+2 seater Coupe produced until the end of the sixties and with which the A310 shares the chassis; in fact, while the A110 was a small Berlinetta, the A310 (and then its heirs GTA and A610) was positioned in the Gran Turismo category, and this is one of the reasons for the failure of the A310.
