The second generation of the Audi S4 was produced from 1997 to 2002 in conjunction with the facelifted 1st gen. A4; in this way, the car benefits from a design that has already been tested and is known for its excellent build quality. The B5 (this is the code name of the 2nd gen.) is based on the same structure as the A4 but has an unprecedented V6 BiTurbo 2.7 engine to replace the 2.2 in-line five-cylinder of the previous generation (the S4 C4). The gearbox is a six-speed manual. The braking system consists of four radially ventilated disc brakes.
