What is it?
The first generation of the BMW 4 Series was born in 2013 and was immediately made available in three variants: Coupe (F32), Cabrio (F33) and Gran Coupe (F36, pictured). This 1st gen. received a slight facelift in 2017 and was produced until 2020, when its successors (G22 and G23) arrived.
Design
4,63 meters long and 1,82 meters wide, the 4 Series is characterized by a sleek and homogeneous line. The headlights are thin and aggressive, and join in the unmissable double kidney grille. The body in the car is covered with ribs whose purpose is purely aesthetic.
Interior
The interior of the 4 Series is very similar to that of the contemporary 3 Series. The infotainment is easily managed by the “iDrive” knob located under the gearbox, and the quality of the finishes is impeccable.
Mechanics
Although it is larger and lower, the 4 Series is based on the same structure used in the 3 Series. This chassis has allowed this car to have a perfect weight distribution with a 50:50 ratio comparing front and rear. The engines offered are many and are shared with many other cars in the BMW range, while the gearbox can be either a 6-speed manual or, on request, an 8-speed automatic.
Evolution
On the basis of the 4 Series, the M4 was also created, a 431HP supersports variant in which some components have been redesigned and made more extreme.
In 2017, a facelift arrived thanks to which the 4 Series took on more accentuated ribs and new headlights with bi-LED technology on the outside and an infotainment more in step with the times inside. The range of engines, on the other hand, has been further expanded.
