Slightly lagging behind its major rivals Audi (e-tron) and Mercedes (EQC), BMW launches its first Full Electric SUV under the name of “iX” in 2021. Contested by many, the design is as futuristic as extravagant. The strangest element is certainly the vertical front grille, which is as big as fake. The interior, which seems largely inspired by that of the Tesla Model X, has a minimalist but sophisticated design where an enormous curved 14-inch touch screen display dominates the dashboard. The driver receives the basic information from a 12-inch fully virtual cockpit. BMW calls this style “Shy Tech” because most of the technologies are hidden into the car’s body and the only way to interface with them is to use the central display; this makes the whole interior look very clean, so bigger. The BMW iX is sold in two variants: the xDrive40 with 400km of autonomy and the xDrive50 with 600km of autonomy and more power. For some reason, BMW doesn’t say how powerful the engines are and gives very vague information about the performances… We want more transparency! The prices are extremely high.
