Produced for 12 years from 1984 to 1996, the C4 marks an important step in the history of Corvette. It is available in both Convertible and Coupe versions. Compared to the previous generation, the exterior design is simpler and gives the impression of being a bullet ready to speed up, while in the rear the two typical pairs of round headlights are even more striking. Just like on the outside, the interiors are very square. In addition to a basic 280 horsepower version, the 300 LT1, the 320 LT4 (in the photo), and the special version produced with the collaboration of Lotus first from 375 and, after a short time improved to 405HP, were produced. However, these engines had a problem: they had some difficulties to respect the anti-pollution standards of the time. That’s also because most of them remain unchanged from the previous generation, the C3, and this signs a lack of innovation. To solve this, in the first 4 years of production Chevrolet adopted a very particular gearbox: It was a “4 + 3 gears” configuration, in which the last three gears are overdrive. After this period, they implemented a standard six-speed gearbox, and consumers appreciated this choice. Among the strengths of the Corvette C4 was the price, which at the time was around 30.000$ for the base model.
