The Ford Explorer has very considerable dimensions, especially in width (it’s 5.06 x 2.26 meters), and is raised 20 centimeters from the ground. In the sixth series, also an “ST” version was introduced, equipped with a standard EcoBoost 300HP, a V6 365 or 400HP, or a super-powerful hybrid engine. In Europe and Russia, it is sold only in its hybrid version (probably to comply with European pollution regulations), which offers the monstrous power of 457 horsepower, and is combined with a 10-speed automatic transmission! With this motorization, the Explorer has a top speed of 320km/h and reaches 100km/h in 6 seconds. Just to make you understand how impressive this is, a brand new BMW M4 is less powerful… This allows the Explorer to tow up to 2500kg. The interior is so spacious that it can be configured to seven seats and the interior finishes are good, but not as premium as what we can find in an Audi Q7 or a BMW X5. The dashboard is dominated by a vertical touch screen display reminiscent of the Tesla Model X. The price is not bad considering the powerful engines that this vehicle offers, but I wonder if 457HP really makes sense on an SUV with a weight of around 2000kg.
