What is it?

The Honda e is a compact and futuristic electric city car on which numerous cutting-edge technologies have been implemented. It is not directly comparable to the Renault Zoe or the Fiat 500e, as, despite being compact and having basic car performance, it is placed in a higher automotive segment, in which high-level functionality and good performance are required to be successful. This market requires high build quality and a few innovations, characteristics that the Honda e fully respects. From here also derives a not very attractive price of around 35.500€, similar to those of the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Cupra Born.

Design

The aesthetic lines of the Honda e are deliberately inspired by those of the typical 70’s utilitarian cars, characterized by a “box” shape and often circular headlights. This classic approach is contrasted by a revised aerodynamics, as well as a futuristic design also dictated by the absence of a front grille, which is a useless element in a car with an electric engine. The rear-view mirrors are replaced by cameras, which further improve the vehicle’s aerodynamics. The dimensions are 3,89 x 1,75 meters, while the weight settles on about 1500kg.

Interior

Inside, the sumptuous technology mentioned above takes place: the dashboard is covered by as many as five displays. The two most lateral displays show the front view captured by the rearview cameras, an 8.8-inch cockpit for the driver and two 12.3-inch displays that serve as infotainment. Using the “Ok, Honda” voice command, it is possible to interact with the car’s artificial intelligence, and there is no shortage of interfaces dedicated to Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The habitability is good for four passengers, and if the need arises, the Honda E is homologated as a 5-seater.

Mechanics

The Honda E chassis houses the engine at the rear and supports rear-wheel drive only. There are two engines available: 136 or 154HP; both have 315NM torque. The battery has a capacity of 35.5kWh and is placed on the floor. It guarantees a range of just over 200km and supports fast charging at 22kW, thanks to which it can be fully recharged within four hours.
