The first-generation Range Rover, later dubbed “Classic”, marks the starting point for one of the most beloved car series of all time. This first series has been on sale for 26 years from 1970 to 1996 and had an enormous commercial and symbolic success: It was probably this car that introduced the idea of Sport Utility Vehicle. In its early years, the Range Rover was only available in a three-door and manual gearbox configuration; the five-door version and automatic transmission will arrive respectively in 1981 and 1982. In collaboration with the Italian brand VM Motori, the first Diesel version was born in 1986 (initially the only engine present was a mighty petrol V8). In 1988, the Vogue SE version introduces air conditioning and comes with ABS as standard, which is truly incredible for those years! In the following years, the interiors are subject to a revisitation that increases the perception of quality. Given the high price, the good build quality of the finishes, and the new automotive trends, over time the Range Rover became no longer a car reserved for off-road and comfort enthusiasts, but a real status symbol, just as it is today.
