Certain sports cars just have the aim to be extremely essential and light. In addition to the competing cars such as the Alfa Romeo 4C and partly the Porsche 718 Cayman, this philosophy includes the Lotus Exige. The design is very particular: it is easy for someone to like it a lot but it can also provoke the opposite reaction to another person. The dimensions are 4,07 x 1,80 meters. The frame of the third-generation Exige makes extensive use of aluminum, and all its parts join each other not thanks to bolts, but thanks to very strong glues of military derivation. All this allows the Exige to be one of the lightest sports cars in its category, with a total weight of around 1100 kilograms. The interior is absolutely bare, and the steering wheel is very small. Everything seems to have been created for lovers of pure sports driving, without many technologies. The engines range from 350 horsepower of the S version launched in 2012 to 436 of the Cup 430 version launched in 2018. The introductory price of around 69.000€ for the S version is considered slightly excessive. In addition to the Exige, the Lotus range includes the “sisters” Elise and Evora and the futuristic Evija, a 2000HP electric car.
