Introduced in 2005, the 3rd gen. Mazda MX-5 took the code name “NC” and was sold in the Roadster (with hard fiberglass roof) and Cabriolet variants. Compared to its predecessor, the NC is based on a completely new platform while maintaining a similar design. The iconic and beloved line taken from the previous generations is contrasted by an interior with lower quality finishes: the extensive use of rigid plastics that are unpleasant to the touch and not very resistant was criticized in particular. This strong criticism compromised sales, and for this reason, it was partially resolved in the facelift version of 2008. Thanks to the dimensions of just 3,99 x 1,72 meters, the car continues to be light and manageable, as well as sprinting with its only two engines: a 126HP 1.8 and a 160HP 2.0. In 2010, exclusively for the European market, the special edition “MX-5 20th Anniversary” was produced in only 2000 units. A second minor aesthetic facelift arrived in 2012. The production ended in 2015 when the MX-5 ND joined the market.
