In 1998 the Opel Astra G enters the market and is on sale together with the Astra Classic, derived from the Astra F. The new design is aggressive and available in both three-door and five-door configurations. Safety is guaranteed not only by the ABS but also thanks to the PRS (Pedal Release System), which has been patented by Opel itself. Numerous safety features and a resistant body allow the Astra G to get four stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests. The range is full of engines for every need, and in 2000 comes the super sports version “OPC Turbo”, equipped with a powerful 192 horsepower engine. The OPC will increase to 200HP in 2003. A methane version arrives in 2002. Also, Opel releases a Cabriolet variant of this car. The production of the Astra G ends in 2005.
