Produced from 2015 to 2021 under the identifying name “K”, the fifth generation of the Opel Astra is a family car that has found good commercial success thanks to its practicality and affordable price. These qualities were praised not only by the public, but also by experts, who in 2016 named it Car of the Year. Compared to its predecessor, the Astra K is smaller and lighter, measuring 4,37 meters in length and weighing around 1300kg. These specifics are similar to those of the competition, consisting of cars such as the Ford Focus, Peugeot 308 and Toyota Corolla. There was also an important change in aerodynamics: the Cx of the Astra K is just 0.28, while that of the previous Astra J is 0.32 (simplifying, the lower the coefficient, the more aerodynamic the car is). The onboard technology has also taken a step forward, mainly thanks to the debut of the optional InteelliLink infotainment system, which can interface with Apple and Android smartphones via an 8-inch touch screen display. The options also include IntelliLux LED headlights with self-adjusting brightness. The Astra K is also a very safe car: this is confirmed by the maximum result of 5 stars out of 5 in the Euro NCAP crash tests. This car was marketed with various diesel and petrol engines in variable power from 90 to 150HP. In the facelift 2019 version, more powerful versions have also been introduced, up to 200HP. n the same year, the entire car was updated in its aesthetics and technologies.
