Born in 2007 as heir to the Toyota Corolla E140, the 1st gen. Toyota Auris is a medium-sized city car available in both 3-door and 5-door variants. The intent of this vehicle is defined by its name: “Auris” comes from the Latin word “aurum”, which means Gold. In fact, the 1st gen. Auris had the purpose of bringing back Toyota’s golden age as regards the sales on that specific and important automotive segment after singing horrible commercial results with the Corolla. The Auris comes with an all-new 4,22 meters long and 1,76 wide chassis, whose extraordinary security is confirmed by the 5-star result and the Euro NCAP crash tests. The interior is simple and looks cheap but features advanced technologies: the multifunctional screen and the satnav are available as options. While in Europe only the basic engines are available, in Japan the Auris E150 (that is his codename) is sold also in a super-sportive V6 275HP AWD variant. In 2010, an important (pictured) facelift made the exterior aesthetic more modern by adopting sharper lines and updated lights and bumper. In the same year, the first hybrid variant of the Auris was also introduced. Before it had been replaced by its 2nd gen. in 2012, the Auris had to face many competitors, such as the Volkswagen Golf, the Opel Astra, and the Ford Focus.
