The Toyota Land Cruiser 60 Series is one of the first SUVs developed more for city use and comfort than for pure off-roading. The choice to produce it was also dictated by the great successes of the first Range Rover, which began to be successful a few years earlier and which is now considered the first city SUV ever. The production of the 60 Series, codenamed “J60”, lasted from 1980 to 1990. Comfort is guaranteed by the standard equipment, which includes air conditioning, a technology that was still rare at the time. In the first years of sale, this vehicle was very successful, but sales dropped quickly with the arrival of the J70 in 1984: the two cars were produced together for six years. During its production, the 60 Series didn’t receive any restyling.
