Since its inception in 1989, the Miata (nickname of the Mazda MX-5) has maintained its philosophy and is still one of the most popular JDMs. Its fourth generation, the ND, is sold starting in 2015 and shares many components with the Fiat 124 Spider. The configuration remains the same: a two-seater Roadster. Compared to the previous generation, the ND weighs 100 kilograms less, for a total of 1000 kg of mass. This is because of the adoption of composite materials. The interior is very similar to the one of the Mazda 3, and there is also a rudimentary infotainment system with an LCD display. The engines have 131 or 160 horsepower. A year later, the MX-5 RF, a hardtop Coupe version of the Miata, is announced and is 45kg heavier than the Roadster model. In 2018, began the production of the special edition “MX-5 30th Anniversary”, produced in only 3000 units and equipped with a two-liter engine that delivers 184HP, which is the most powerful engine ever fitted to a Miata. Overall, the MX-5 ND enjoys much more noticeable commercial success than its major opponent, the Toyota MR2.
