What is it?

Introduced in 2021 with the code name “G42”, the second generation of the BMW 2 Series is presented as larger, more powerful and more expensive than its predecessor, getting very close to the target of the 3 Series, from which it shares its structure.

Design

Produced only in the Coupe variant, the 2nd gen. 2 Series features a bolder design: the shape of the typical BMW kidney grille changed, as did the geometry of the headlights, both in the front and in the rear. The dimensions are 4,54 x 1,83 meters for a dry weight of around 1500 kilos.

Interior and equipment

The interior remains similar: the screen intended for infotainment measures 12,3” and can be controlled both with the touch screen and with the typical “iDrive” knob; a 10” LCD panel dedicated to the driver works as a cockpit. Various technologies concerning driving safety are standard, namely Adaptive Cruise Control, automatic braking, recognition of road signs and maintenance of the trajectory. The fact that Apple Carplay and Android Auto are still paid options, however, made some fans of the brand turn up their noses.

Mechanics

Much of the mechanics are shared with the G20, especially the engines, including the “220d”, a 190HP and 400NM Mild-Hybrid diesel; then there are two petrol versions: a baseline 184HP and 300NM “220i” and a sporty 374HP 500NM “240i”, which guarantees to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4,3 seconds and to reach a top speed of 250km/h.
